Intro to 한글 Pt. 2
안녕!
In part no. 2 of Intro to Hangul (한글) we'll learn some Sino-Korean numbers! Sino-Korean is a term for any Korean words that are based on the Chinese language.
1 일 ( il )
2 이 ( i )
3 삼 ( sam )
4 사 ( sa )
5 오 ( o )
6 육 ( yuk )
7 칠 ( chil )
8 팔 ( pal )
9 구 ( gu )
10 십 ( sip )
100 백 ( baek )
1000 천 ( cheon )
So in Korean, if you wanted to say a number such as 15, you would say ten and then five.
15 = 십오 ( sip-o)
47 = 사십칠 ( sa-sip-chil )
사십칠 is essentially saying the numbers four and ten to make forty and a single seven, which makes 47.
This works with larger numbers as well.
For example 2681 = 이천육백팔십일 ( i-cheon-yuk-baek-pal-sip-il )
When converted to English, it is similar to saying two thousand six hundred eight ten one.
That is all for today, and I hope you learnt how to say the numbers in Sino-Korean! :)
