Intro to 한글 Pt. 1

안녕하세요. 방갑 습니다. 제 이름은 레이첼 입니다.
Hello, nice to meet you. My name is Rachel.

이 블로그에 나는 한글과 영어로 글을 쓸 것입니다.
On this blog I will be writing in Korean and English.

나는 약 육 개월 동안 한국어를 배웠습니다. 그래서 나는 많은 사람들과 기본적인 대화를 나눌 수 있습니다.
I have been learning Korean for approximately 6 months. However, as I have watched a lot of Korean drama series before. I can understand and speak conversational Korean.

As my Korean language skills are quite limited, I'll mainly be writing in English and give a guide to Hangul (한글). Hangul is the name of the alphabet used to write Korean.

In Hangul, there are 24 basic consonants. 14 of these are (자음) and 5 of these are double tense consonants (쌍자음).

There are also 10 basic vowel letters (모음). When combined with 11 additional letters, there are a total of 21 vowels. Out of these 21 vowels, 8 are single pure vowels (단모음), while the other 13 are the result of two vowel sounds joined together to make one sound (이중모음).

To learn more about Korean, I highly recommend visiting http://talktomeinkorean.com/ or even purchasing some of their adorable grammar textbooks and workbooks!

Rachel :)
